Abstract

The effectiveness of classroom natural ventilation design during the Covid-19 pandemic was evaluated from the perspective of occupant behavior. A school model was calibrated and scenarios with/ without occupant influence on door and window operation were simulated. The resulting air change rates were compared to the values suggested in the specialized literature, showing that the scenario representing actual occupant behavior did not meet the recommended minimum values most of the time. By keeping the door and windows open at all times, the architectural design showed a better fit with the reference values.
