Abstract

Natural ventilation is important to renew the air in the environments, cool the building and provide thermal comfort and energy efficiency. Its performance is related to the configuration of building openings, but few studies address the ventilation potential provided by exit openings. This research investigated the ventilation potential of multifamily residential buildings, varying the size of the air outlet openings in Maceió, using computational simulation. The results showed that the ventilation potential was satisfactory in most cases. Regarding environmental comfort sensation, mid-section-based vents performed better.
