Abstract

With more than 1 billion people living in slums, it is estimated that the goal of eradicating poverty will not be achieved by 2030 (SDG #1). With public housing policies as a focus, many studies on affordable housing are developed, however, focusing, occasionally, on sustainable solutions, without their integration and concrete reversal in socio-environmental improvements to the building. This work aims to discuss the importance of implementations in the product, in order to transform affordable housing into sustainable affordable housing. After an extensive literature review, a bibliographic analysis was conducted, culminating in a dossier with the best practices that can (and should) be observed by all stakeholders, especially by public policy developers and decision makers. It also presents the dimension and main theme in which each solution is inserted, pointing out the stakeholders involved and the main related ESG aspect. It concluded that there is still a long way to go for affordable housing policies in terms of sustainable development.
