Abstract

This paper examines the challenges of information management in BIM projects, with a focus on software interoperability and the complexity of the Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) export and import process. The research highlights the difficulty of achieving a data-rich model in the preliminary design stages due to the lack of clear definitions of project information requirements. Precise management of a data-rich model enables integrated automation with 4D and 5D processes. However, this remains a challenge in the preliminary design stages, considering that various project information requirements are yet to be defined by clients and coordination teams at these stages. The paper presents a solution to this problem by proposing an automation logic for applying the model to element changes in the IFC file based on object-oriented programming. An application example is presented as an exercise in enriching a model that is originally information-poor.
