Abstract

In this study, the fine fraction of concrete waste (FFCW)as a substitute for Portland cement (CP) in mortars and concretes was evaluated. The studied waste was obtained through mechanical sieving of recycled concrete sand, using particles with  <0.15 mm. The materials were characterized in terms of granulometry, mineralogical (DRX) and chemistry (FRX) composition and pozzolanic activity. In mortar, the compressive strength was evaluated with variation the substitution content (0%, 15%, 25% and 50%) and the waste granulometry (R1, R2, R3 and R4).In concrete the compressive and tensile strength and elasticity modulus were evaluated, for
substitution levels of 0%, 15%, and 25%. The results indicate that the waste studied has physicochemical characteristics compatible with Portland cement, which can be used in levels of up to 25% to produce cement-based materials, meeting the minimum compressive strength of the Brazilian standard. For the concrete production, it was found that the higher the RC content, the lower the cement consumption required per MPa and CO2 emissions per m³, indicating a potential for using FFCW as an environmentally friendly alternative in the production of less emissive cements.
