A DIVERSIFICAÇÃO DO USO APLICADO À FUNÇÃO SOCIAL DOS ESTÁDIOS E ARENAS BRASILEIROS

This article aims to understand the changes in the relation among city, people, sports stadiums and arenas, especially, the ones that have diversified usage. At first, it was traced methodological correlations with comparative analysis of data, assigning the origin of this type of building to the passion of Brazilian people for soccer. Then, it was analyzed the effects of cause and consequence of construction, renewal and adaptation of several stadiums during 2014 World Cup event that had been built during Brazilian dictatorship time. Those actions, that followed the global tendency to impose modalities on the way consumption takes place in those places, made clear that there were unoccupied spaces and a possible waste of public money. At last, it was analyzed the importance of flexibility of this kind of building that has been essential all over the world in 2020 being used as field hospitals to fight the coronavirus pandemic and Covid-19 and that made it necessary the reintegration of those stadiums and arenas in the political socioeconomics routines of cities.
