Abstract

The use of wood as a building material has been developed in the last decades because of the new massive wood technologies, like the Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT). This study aims to evaluate the anual operational energy consumption of a CLT vertical building from a simulation integrated into a BIM model. Different building techniques were compared in this study, like ceramic and concrete blocks, so the results could be compared. The simulation was made to the Curitiba – PR city climate, to compare the influence from different materials at the building operational life cycle phase. The CLT panels applied to that case study are capable to reduce the eletricity energy, but because of the thickness of the panels it is possible to infer that the CLT model consumes more energy from fuels. As a conclusion, it is possible to infer that the CLT panels could be compared to other massive building techniques, obtaining similar results from a operational energy simulation.
