Urban population growth has intensified environmental impacts in cities, such as the increase in urban heat islands and thermal stress. Green roofs emerge as a sustainable solution, capable of reducing the internal temperature of buildings and improving their thermal performance. Over the years, research on green roofs with a focus on thermal comfort has increased; however, gaps still remain that hinder a full understanding of the topic, which motivates the development of a literature review capable of gathering, analyzing, and synthesizing existing knowledge. In this context, this study aims to carry out a systematic literature review using the PRISMA protocol, in order to analyze research trends related to these systems with a focus on the thermal efficiency of green roofs, comparing them to conventional roofs. A total of 235 articles were analyzed, going through four stages: identification, screening, eligibility, and inclusion, using the PICO strategy and scoring criteria for selecting relevant articles. The main contribution of this research is to validate the use of the PRISMA methodology for systematic reviews, while also reinforcing the potential of green roofs as a strategy for mitigating urban climate impacts.
