A sustainable proposal in the Padre Miguel neighborhood, RJ.

Abstract

The proposal is based on the community's long-term experience, where serious deficiencies in solid waste management and a lack of institutional support were observed, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. The improper disposal of disposable masks has become a public health issue, increasing the risk of contamination for waste pickers and street cleaners in the region. Educational campaigns, although widespread, have proven ineffective in peripheral contexts, indicating the need for strategies more closely aligned with local realities. The objective is to present the results of the Final Graduation Project (TFG), which developed the design for a Sustainable Environmental Education Community Center in the Murundu community, located in Padre Miguel, RJ. The methodology involved a bibliographic review and analysis of design references, which helped define the problems of the object and the study area and supported the development of the architectural design, based on sustainability, environmental comfort, and suitability for the site. The results demonstrate progress in environmental awareness and community engagement, through active participation in participatory workshops. The conclusions emphasize the importance of the project for the region, its contribution to enhancing the environmental quality of the project's immediate surroundings and improving the working conditions of recyclable material collectors.
