THE ASSESSMENT OF SUSTAINABLE ASPECTS IN PUBLIC SQUARES – CASE OF “PRAÇA DA SÉ”, CRATO/CE

This article aims to establish criteria related to the concept of sustainability to be applied in public space projects, with a focus on squares, based on the analysis of the transformations suffered over decades by Praça da Sé, located in the city center of Crato/CE, up to its current configuration. For this purpose, issues related to the economic viability of the solutions, to the uses and social return of spaces and equipment, as well as to the environmental benefits of the adopted choices were analyzed. The research methodology has an exploratory, descriptive and propositional character, since from the observation and analysis of the study focus, certain theoretical premises related to bibliographic research were raised, and then to propose parameters that can be applied to other similar projects. This article concludes as essential the sustainable aspects applicable to public living spaces, enumerating them in a summary table so that they serve as a guide for actions to be taken into consideration in future projects.
