Abstract

Walkability encompasses the aspects of the urban environment that contribute to walking and can be measured by applying the Walkability Index (iCam), developed by the Transport and Development Policy Institute (ITDP Brazil, 2018), through a tool that allows for identification the characteristics of the urban environment that influence the movement of people and monitor the impact of actions to qualify public space, from the perspective of the pedestrian. Data collection for the evaluation of indicators is done through a field survey in the sidewalk segment, with qualitative and quantitative assessment, with the attribution of points of (0) insufficient, (1) sufficient, (2) good or (3) excellent. Thus, this research seeks to assess the walkability of the Nossa Senhora Aparecida neighborhood, located in the city of Colatina/ES. The result of applying the index of the analyzed area reveals that the pedestrian experience in the evaluated region is sufficient, obtaining an overall score of 1.00 point, indicating the prioritization of interventions and actions in the short term. Through the evaluation, it was possible to identify the most critical places in the area of analysis, enabling the identification of the challenges and potential of each street and the elaboration of guidelines and strategies to promote walkability in the neighborhood
