IN SEARCH OF QUALITY IN STANDARDS: FREE SPACES IN SOCIAL HOUSING

Abstract

The large scale of housing developments recently built in Brazil was marked by the standardization of designs that, in most cases, did not consider the free recreational areas of the projects, nor the integration of housing with the city. Considering the importance of the free recreational areas in the daily life of the population and the patterns that guide the housing quality, we seek to analyze the architectural design on a scale still little investigated in housing production: between the housing private unit space and the cities' public space. To this end, we selected three housing developments from the Minha Casa Minha Vida Program (PMCMV), representing each of the program's principal modalities (Entidades, Faixa 1, and Faixa 2). As a result, we identified the main factors that determine the quality of the free area projects, as well as the responsible agents in each of the modalities (construction companies in Faixa 1 and 2 and technical assistance in Entidades). Thus, we seek to collaborate for the discussion on the importance of open and collective areas inserted in the process of standardization of housing.
