URBAN INTERVENTION IN ARTISANAL FISHING COMMUNITIES IN THE NORTH CENTRAL COAST OF ESPÍRITO SANTO

Abstract

This article seeks to reflect on the city and its built environments through the analysis of urban/architectural intervention in traditional communities located in urban-metropolitan contexts. For this purpose, the artisanal fishing community on the edge of Itapuã, in the county of Vila Velha, located in the Metropolitan Region of Grande Vitória, in the state of Espírito Santo, Brazil, is adopted as a study area. As specific objectives of the article, it seeks to: understand the reality of artisanal fishing communities in their socio-spatial aspects; perform critical analysis of existing intervention proposals for the area; and investigate possibilities of qualification and enhancement of the built environment related to the traditional community object of this study. For this purpose, documentary research was carried out in books, articles, dissertations, a search in official sources of information about the study area at the Municipality of Vila Velha, IBGE, field visits, information mapping, interviews and photographic records.
