Abstract

The high energy consumption by air conditioning systems, shows that the study of passive changes in buildings is extremely important in order to provide a reduction in this demand. Using computer simulation tools (SketchUp, OpenStudio and Energy Plus), this work analyzes the implementation of passive alterations in a high standard summer house considering the application of different thermophysical glass properties and the installation of brise-soleils on different facades and distance between them. These proposed changes can be implemented even in a building that is already operating. It was also verified the impacts of the use of natural ventilation during the use and schedule stipulated for the residence. Analyzing seven thermal zones of building on a typical summer day the simulations results analysis from the different configurations of the building, showed that the model which obtained better performance was the brise-soleils on the east and west facades, apart 5 cm between them) and use of HVAC. It was possible to verify savings with air conditioning operation consumption of up to 20%, varying each room. This savings can reach a total of 600kWh monthly. The results obtained show the importance of using passive changes to save energy.
