Abstract

Alternatives to social sustainability have been discussed in parallel with the issues surrounding the environmental sustainability of buildings. In this scenario, project strategies that demand a more complex performance by the coordination emerge, due to the large number of disciplines involved in the production of the complete building project. During the World Sustainable Built Environment Conference (Hong Kong, 2017), those themes were widely discussed by participants. However, it was noted that most of papers presented discussed only the environmental aspect of sustainability. This paper is part of the ongoing research, which discusses the construction of smart cities, and presents a synthesis of design proposals presented during the international event that considers the social aspect of sustainability. The main purpose is to identify design strategies for the improvement of the ambience and quality of the building beyond environmental sustainability. Results indicate the regenerative, responsive and biophilic projects as alternatives for the production of more sustainable environments, within the vision of the tripod: environmentsociety-economy. The proposals discussed at that event reveal trends to be observed by the project development sector
