Abstract

Information Visualization (InfoVis) solutions are critical to improving the understanding and use of complex data. The paper presents the codesign workshop results, which used brainsketching to elaborate on InfoVis solutions for the under-development software of allocating activities in the built environment. The objective is to analyze the readability strategies presented by the developed solutions and thus base the next development steps. The participants were introduced to the software's functioning and the data they had to represent visually. Two multidisciplinary teams, formed by designers and architects, discuss, and propose visualization ideas, communicating through sketches and speech. They received support materials to co-design activity, such as a data sample – obtained by mapping a true allocation in a University Hospital emergency room – cards with reference views and sketch material. The results achieved by the two teams present characteristics that fit into two strategies for reducing the complexity of information visualization postulated in the consulted theory. The discussion of these results contributes to the theoretical framework of InfoVis practices and offers insights into visualization in the software under development.
