Digital tools bring new approaches to problem-solving in design compared to traditional procedures. The speed at which tools and processes emerge may require a constant updating of design processes. The use of instruments such as Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Virtual Reality (VR) has gained emphasis in design discussions, being one of the aspects that can be further explored in these processes. However, research exploring how these tools can foster design discussions among involved agents and enable real-time modifications in a collaborative process is lacking. The objective of this article is to assess the potential of interactive tools available in a program that allows activities in the immersive virtual environment based on BIM modeling. A pilot study was conducted with three architects who have extensive experience in architectural design offices to discuss the potentialities and limitations of this process. Simulations were developed and an interview protocol was applied. The aim was to identify how its applicability can occur in a collaborative process involving architects, designers from other specialties, and users/clients. The results indicate good potential for the use of these tools in various aspects of the design process.
