ABSTRACT: The proper sizing of rainwater harvesting systems (RWHS) is essential to guarantee their effectiveness. Given the different sizing methods and approaches, this study seeks to compare the influence of sizing criteria on the efficiency, spilled volume and net present value (NPV) of the systems. Thus, a computer program was used to compare these indicators for systems sized considering the following criteria: efficiency, reliability, NPV, NPV per storage volume and difference between percentages of savings per storage volume. There was a wide variation in the indicators for the evaluation criteria, which makes each criterion should be used for an objective. It is considered that systems scaled by the maximum NPV and by the difference between savings per volume presented considerable efficiency and higher economic returns for most of the evaluated scenarios. Thus, in general, they are more suitable.
