Analysis of rainwater use based on the measurement of the end uses of water in a house

ABSTRACT: This paper presents an analysis of the use of rainwater for non-potable uses in a house. Water flow measurements were made at each consumption point, and the end uses through the measurement made by the residents were estimated. The most used device was the shower, followed by the washing machine. After this stage, simulations were carried out using the Netuno programme, version 4, considering the use of rainwater in two scenarios: (i) toilets and garden faucet (13.31%) and (ii) toilets, garden faucet, washing machine and laundry-sink faucet (36.43%). The use or not of an upper rainwater tank was also simulated. The results showed that there were no significant differences with the use of the upper tank, except for the spilled-off water. As a positive point, it is noteworthy that the efficiency of the system for all simulations was above 90%.
