Urban morphology influences the quality of life of users of the urban environment, in addition, several morphological variables can be associated with the performance of cities in relation to their inhabitants. Thus, the objective of this research is to raise morphological characteristics of eight neighborhoods in the municipality of João Pessoa (Bessa, Jardim Oceania, Manaíra, Tambaú, Cabo Branco, Altiplano Cabo Branco, Castelo Branco and Bancários). The morphological variable followed was the number of floors of buildings in the sample neighborhoods. The data collection was carried out through mapping using the Qgis software, the database provided by the João Pessoa City Hall through the Planning Department, and an observational analysis by Google Street View, the results were qualitatively compared between the neighborhoods. Note that the neighborhoods of Castelo Branco and Bancários have a low incidence of buildings above eight floors. The studied buildings range from zero to fifty-two floors. It was possible to conclude that the environmental legislation interferes in the urban characteristics of the neighborhoods in the perimeter of the edge of the city.
