Buildings with educational uses are major contributors to greenhouse gas emissions and with great energy demand. These buildings have the ideal consumption profile for the integration of photovoltaic systems. There is, however, a concern if the aesthetics of these buildings, besides the existence of trees responsible for shading, which can decrease the efficiency of the installed system. The aim of this research is to design a photovoltaic system for the UNEMAT, located in the city of Sinop-MT, operating in the three periods of day and to verify the economic viability of the system. The methodology consists of three steps: characterization of the object of study, simulation of the photovoltaic system and economic analysis. PVSyst software was used for the technical sizing and Excel spreadsheet for calculations of financial viability. The results showed that, even with partial shading, it is feasible to implement the system. The economic indicators (Internal Rate of Return - IRR - and Payback) showed that the return is reached in less than eight years and that the IRR (of 21%) is higher than the Minimum Attractiveness Rate of Return (MARR) used, of 6%. It is concluded that, in addition to being financially and environmentally beneficial, the system can adapt to the construction already built, which shows the possibility of studies for implantation in other universities of the Brazil.
