Many simulation tools have been developed to perform lighting analysis in the built environment. The Autodesk Revit software offers additional features for computational simulations for digital building models. This paper presents a study on the use of the Insight Lighting Analysis plug-in (version 3.0.0.1) on the Autodesk Revit 2018 to check compliance with Brazilian standards and certifications for natural light simulations. The base model of the ASHRAE 140 standard was used in order to run the simulations, adapting its building according to the Brazilian context. The simulations were set up and executed in order to follow the guidelines of the housing performance standard NBR 15.575 and the Technical Quality Regulation for the Energy Efficiency Level of Residential Buildings (RTQ-R). Since the results demonstrated that it was not possible to run the simulations with the use of the above mentioned plug-in observing the standards required by NBR 15.575, the approach taken was approximating the simulation configurations according to the norm. Likewise, it was not possible to meet RTQ-R requirements because the settings presented by the plug-in are default and directed to LEED certification. For the purpose of meeting RTQ-R requisites, it is necessary to use an external simulation program to analyze the performance of natural light based on recommendations and requirements adequate to Brazilian regulation.
