Abstract

The thermal performance parameters established by the Housing Performance Standard - NBR 15575 are highly relevant both for the Brazilian civil construction sector and society. Thus, integrating such regulations with local legislation, such as the Building Codes (COEs), becomes essential in advancing the quality of the built environment, as it directly and indirectly contributes to users' lives in the spaces. Therefore, the objective this work is to verify the thermal performance parameters established by the Housing Performance Standard and Building Codes of Brazilian capitals, concerning the roof, External Vertical Sealing Systems (SVVE), and percentage of openings projected for natural ventilation. The methodology adopted to achieve the main aim of this work consists of two steps: the first is selecting and verifying construction regulations and the second is the comparative analysis between the COEs and NBR 15575. The results indicate that a most of the COEs lack NBR 15575’s thermal performance parameters and that the COEs presents the worst types of roof and SVVE systems. Nevertheless, the criteria related to the percentage of minimum opening span for natural ventilation is presented and meets NBR 15575 in 21 of the 27 COEs analyzed, corresponding to 77.78%. It is concluded that the COEs must undergo periodic updates to adapt to local conditions. However, such processes require time and qualified personnel to verify each aspect of the COEs.
