Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to encourage discussion about the contribution that Building Information Modeling (BIM) can offer to Facilities Management in buildings of higher education institutions (HEIs). The existing buildings of this kind have unique operating conditions compared to other similar vertical constructions. In this way, the application of BIM processes along with Facilities Management practices can assist HEIs in managing their facilities, promoting the management of their assets according to the use requirements in their environments. As a way to contribute to achieve this goal, we chose to do a research based on Design Science Research (DSR), a research method directed to problem solving. The result was the proposal of a Solution Project whose validation was carried out in two stages: first, with the intervention in services that were already underway at the institution; and, second, with the simulation of processes related to the studied items and services.
