Abstract

Lean Thinking emerged from Toyota’s System of Production, which has the main goal in banish waste and add value to the customer. First implemented at manufacturing it has overcome the factory environment, reaching the healthcare service. However, in addition to use in health services, the lean concept can be used in architectural projects, called lean design. That is less widespred and used than the use at services and operations, which has motivated us to explore the topic. This article has the main goal in study and present how lean thinking and lean design are being used in hospitals by a systematic literature review. As resource problem we have the relation between the complexity of hospital projects, which commonly present mistakes that harms the project’s activity flow. Thus we pretend to answer those questions: How lean design helps the development of hospitals projects? and How service and building project can be more integrated? Trough a search at CAPES database using the terms lean thinking in healthcare, lean in healthcare and hospital design AND lean tools were selected 15 articles which satisfied our requiriments. Those riquerements were to approach directly in abstract a lean thinking or lean design aplication at hospitals.
