Abstract

Cool surfaces are one of the suggested strategies to reduce urban heating. This study aims to analyze the impact of high solar reflectance materials on shortwave radiation fluxes. The method consists of computational simulations of two scenarios with an ENVI-met validated model for Balneário Camboriú, Brazil. The results analysis in urban canyons with distinct geometries shows that the surroundings’ high solar reflectance is associated with a reduction of surface temperatures and, at the same time, with an increase in solar radiation incidence in these canyons.
