Evaluation of the municipal sustainability index of the city of Pau dos Ferros - RN

The Brazilian semi-arid region is characterized by having a low concentration of rainfall in certain periods, a considerably high temperature and expressive insolation, which directly influences the conception of environmental comfort and the relationship between man and nature. In this way, since the relationship between man and semiarid region is considered minimal, there is a need to introduce the concept of sustainable development in the region, so that in this way, it can guarantee the conservation of fauna, flora and the harmony of the relationship between man and environment. . To identify such indicators, the definition of dimensions was taken as a reference, classified by social, environmental, economic, cultural, demographic, political-institutional dimension, and the variables, which perform the understanding of the aspect in the space of dimensions, allowing thus understanding the data. The city of Pau dos Ferros presents a sustainability index in a state considered "critical", this factor is mainly due to the lack of political increments to strengthen social, economic, demographic and environmental development.
