Light, health and quality of life in a Long-Stay Institution for the Elderly

Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the issues of integrative lighting and its specific criteria in a Long-Stay Institution for the Elderly. As methodology, a field investigation was carried out involving the following steps: photos; analysis of living areas and bedrooms; measurement scans performed with spectrophotometer of natural lighting conditions and electric light sources. As a result, it was verified that the house presents circadian potential through natural light. However, electric light needs to be implemented more dynamically, in addition to greater care for the night lighting of the rooms.
