Rapid additive manufacturing considerations and the use of new types of concrete in printed constructions

Abstract

Rapid additive manufacturing emerged as an evolution of the development of rapid prototyping technologies that, since the 1980s, have completely changed the scenario of prototyping. This work aims to carry out descriptive research on the impact of adopting these new digital technologies against the requirements and possible advantages related to new materials and a lower environmental impact for buildings. Additive manufacturing in concrete is a new concept in building environments and is becoming an effective reality every day, making practical processes marked by freedom of design with the use of complex physical shapes, manufacturing precision with functional voids, dynamic efficiency of construction from design, which is not possible with conventional construction processes.
