This work aims to analyze the influence of pergolas on the availability of natural light inside a west-facing medical office in a tropical low-latitude city. The evaluations were based on the internal illuminance on the work plane generated through TropLux software using a case study model and hypothetical scenarios. The simulation of the office includes a fixed glass window parallel to the high wall on the west side and variations in the orientation and spacing of the pergolas, or their absence, in the side setback, between the wall and the office, maintaining the vegetated configuration of the 5.00m high white wall. The results demonstrate that the use of pergolas on the west-facing side helps control light discomfort caused by excessive sunlight, allowing the wall height to be minimized to ensure that the illuminance on the work plane reaches acceptable levels according to natural lighting metrics.
