The The elaboration of a federated model in Building Information Modeling

Abstract

The Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) sector is fundamental to the development of modern society, but it has been losing productivity due to its fragmented processes and increasingly complex products. However, the Building Information Modeling (BIM) methodology is seen as a disruptive force capable of transforming the industry and improving efficiency, productivity, and deadlines. This article explores the concepts and underlying fundamentals of creating Federated Models, aiming to propose a process model for developing a Federated Model through the BIM methodology. This proposal is validated through two case studies involving construction projects of different uses. Finally, it is verified that simplifying the design process model leads to a significant reduction in errors and rework, resulting in time and resource savings, as well as contributing to overall improvement in construction quality.
