Abstract

The performance of a building is related to the feeling of comfort of its users. This study aims to investigate the thermal, light, and acoustic adaptation of students in a historic residential building with current educational use, during class time. Questionnaires were applied to 150 students throughout the year in two naturally ventilated rooms, in the morning and afternoon shifts. The surveys were applied at the beginning and end of classes to determine variations in responses related to the adaptation process. The questions included were about the general characteristics of the participants, type of clothing, period of stay and positioning in the room, among others. Simultaneously, data on acoustics, lighting and air temperature were collected using equipment during the class period. The results indicated divergences between the data collected and the users' thermal, acoustic, and light perception. Respondents pointed out changes between states of comfort and discomfort, at the beginning and end of classes, when the environmental conditions underwent few/no changes. The responses seem to indicate that users were able to adapt to the imposed environment.
