Abstract

Construction 4.0 has gained prominence as a means to improve productive performance and reduce costs by utilizing cutting-edge technologies. Determining the fundamentals of Industry 4.0, software, and technologies applied in the market is crucial to understanding the advances in the construction sector. This study aims to present a Systematic Literature Review that seeks answers regarding the use of tools, processes, and systems that constitute Construction 4.0 and their applications in planning and controlling costs and deadlines in construction projects. A total of 53 articles from journals and conferences published between 2013 and 2023 were analyzed. To this end, two guiding questions were formulated, and the search for their explanations guided the development of the study. Based on the research, it was possible to observe the advancement of Industry 4.0 in global civil construction, particularly in the areas of BIM, IoT, and Big Data, with a notable emphasis on the use of BIM tools that have been solidifying in the areas of planning and controlling costs and deadlines. However, the adoption of these technologies is still modest due to the sector's resistance to adopting new technologies, which is attributed to the need for organizational structure adaptation and the costs associated with implementation.
