Abstract

The housing deficit in Brazil is still a complex problem, especially given the misguided strategies employed to solve it. In addition, an indiscriminate amount of waste is produced, which is sometimes disposed of irregularly. Soil-cement bricks are a material capable of incorporating this waste and helping to solve the housing shortage. Therefore, the aim of this research was to gather and analyze studies on natural materials and waste incorporated into soil-cement bricks, to understand their feasibility from a mechanical performance point of view, in addition to observing which of these studies address thermal characterization and the methodology used. The methodology used was a systematic literature review on the Web of Science and Scopus databases. After the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 89 articles were selected. Among these, 34 articles adhered to the theme. The results were categorized into two groups: natural materials or fibres, with 9 articles; and waste and ash, with 25 articles. In all, 15 articles evaluated the thermal characteristics of soil-cement bricks. The results were positive for the incorporation of most of the materials studied, endorsing the use of treated materials and waste in stabilized soil-cement bricks.
