Abstract

The outdoor spaces are essential parts of the university campuses, as they are part of the set of spaces that contribute to expand social, cultural, and personal relationships. In this sense, these spaces can impact the quality of life of users and their academic performance, although it is still a little explored topic. Thus, using the campus of the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF) as the object of study, this research aims to determine whether the spatial configurations of the open spaces stimulate vitality and socialization. For that, tests of spatial syntax analyzes were developed and compared to the results of behavioral maps of the
areas of coexistence of the plateau of the Faculties of Engineering, Arts and Design and Architecture and Urbanism of the campus. The analysis of maps of global integration, connectivity and visibility of the open spaces showed areas with greater and lower potential for use. However, the behavioural map indicated that these results did not always correspond to the actual number of registered users in the analysed areas.
