AVALIAÇÃO DA APARÊNCIA E PREFERÊNCIA POR NOVE PROJETOS DE ARQUITETOS PREMIADOS COM O PRITZKER

Abstract

This paper aims to evaluate the appearance and identify preferences and justifications in relation to nine projects by architects awarded with the Pritzker Prize for Architecture from 1983 to 2012, according to people with different levels and types of academic training. Data were collected through online questionnaires, completed by 206 respondents: architects (60), non-architects college graduates (128) and non-college graduates (18). The nine projects were individually evaluated and compared among themselves in each set with images of three projects. Data analysis was performed using non-parametric statistical tests, such as Kendall W and Kruskal-Wallis. Among the main results is the clear difference between the aesthetic quality of projects by Pritzker Prize winning architects, as well as an evident appreciation of the simultaneous existence of order and visual stimulus in the projects. Thus, this paper contributes to the knowledge about the perception of appearance and the preference for projects of Pritzker Prize winning architects, as well as the reasons for the projects more and less preferred by people with different levels and types of academic training.
