Abstract

The aim of this paper is to investigate satisfaction with visual privacy in relation to the exterior of the building, from the main window of the living room of apartments located in tall buildings, through the perceptions of residents of such buildings. The search for visual privacy is one of the biggest motivations for choosing to live in apartments on higher floors in tall buildings. However, visual privacy can be affected by other buildings that are very close, even in apartments on higher floors. The data were collected through questionnaires applied to residents of apartments located on different floors of seven tall buildings in the city of Caxias do Sul, categorized according to their urban contexts. The data obtained were analyzed through frequencies and qualitatively. The results reveal, for example, that distances between the windows of tall buildings less than 20 meters, regardless of the floor of the apartment, tend to negatively affect visual privacy in relation to the exterior.
