Resumo

This paper analyses and comments on the current stage of application of Building Information Modelling (BIM) for infrastructure projects with an emphasis on projects with underground structures based on concepts already used for building projects. It shows the complexity of projects involving ground because, as it has a very large number of variables, it is difficult to analyse. These ground characteristics, after analysed, can be stored in a network and made available to all project stakeholders. The AGS standard is used so that all can read this data. A major challenge is to be able to turn that data into IFC format, so that the projects involving ground have the interoperability required by BIM. Thus, an extension of the IFC scheme is proposed, so that the modelling of the ground is feasible in projects with the use of BIM.
