Abstract

This article is an outcome of the doctoral thesis of the first author. It aims to show symmetries between aspects of the architect's typical activities and some entrepreneurship guidelines from contemporary literature of reference. Based on a parallel reading between, on the one hand, authors who explore the issue of planning and management of architectural offices and, on the other hand, main authors on digital transformation, lean thinking, design thinking, business models and agile methods, it seeks to highlight the most evident points of contact. The result is an undeniable symmetry between two theoretically distant fields: architecture and urban planning (built environment) and the software development industry. Beyond the symmetry, there are explicit mentions of the architect's work activity as a positive reference for startups business models and planning by authors of agile methodologies. These findings reinforce the understanding of some authors such as the inadequacy of linear models for the planning of architectural offices and raises the curiosity about possible future deepening of this type of investigation.
