SAFETY IN PUBLIC SPACES: EVALUATION OF SQUARES THROUGH INDICATORS – VITÓRIA - ES

Public spaces are important environments for conviviality in cities. However, some factors interfere with their good use, transforming such spaces into idle and dangerous places. Crime, which is the focus of this article, is one of the main reasons why squares end up becoming underutilized, creating points of insecurity. This article aims to analyze the crime rates in Regional 1 - Centro, in the city of Vitória - ES, being crimes of homicide, theft and drug trafficking and traffic accidents. In parallel, it uses the analysis of the squares carried out in this regional through the evaluation tool developed by the research group itself, for comparative purposes, in order to validate the tool itself and the way it addresses and evaluates the issue of protection and security in the squares. For this, mappings are carried out with data on land use, urban equipment, road hierarchy, occupation and the crime itself in the surroundings of the selected squares, in order to understand where, how and why the registered cases occur and what is their relationship with the spaces public
