Abstract

This ongoing master`s research investigates school environments. Within the context of the information and communication age, new pedagogical approaches characterize a scenario of transformations that includes social, cultural, and technological aspects. These changes demand rethinking the learning spaces. This research aims to evaluate the adequacy of the school space related to the pedagogical approach and new digital technologies, focusing in high school classrooms in a specific federal institution. Specific objectives include evaluation of spatial configurations of the classroom, mapping of existing technologies in the environment, investigation of how people uses the space, identification of people-environment interactions and evaluation of main demands and expectations of students and teachers. Supported by Environmental Psychology, this research uses the following methods: walkthroughs, technological mapping, behavioral mapping interviews and questionnaires. Results of this stage present the walkthrough performed with monitoring and mapping of the existing technologies in the classrooms. It was observed that the scenario is of little technological insertion in the learning spaces. It instigates reflections on the teaching process of the college that, even without intense use of technology, presents one of the best results in the country. This research contributes to architecture and education fields through interdisciplinary results that includes thoughts about pedagogical methods, space configurations and users perceptions.
