Abstract

It is known that functionality, when adhered to the product housing, gives its users greater assurance of the satisfaction of their needs. This article, as a result of a doctoral thesis, aims to analyze the functionality of Social Housing architectural projects) in Maceió-AL, between the years 1964 and 2014, from the verification of functional attributes, taking into account the space required to the use and occupation of the different environments. The methodological procedures were based on historical-documentary research within public agencies responsible for housing production by setting a sample for analysis of 16 original and distinct architectural designs. It was verified that all environments presented some type of inadequacy or functional problem. In addition, it was also observed that the dimensional reduction in the useful area of some projects implied a greater amount of functional inadequacies. It was possible to observe improvements in the functionality of the analyzed projects, from small modifications in the project or through the redesign of the original layout, maximizing the attendance of the users' needs. It is hoped to contribute to the reflection of the designers when designing housing alternatives that guarantee the functionality - human and social need - offering to its users a greater guarantee of the satisfaction and the attendance of their needs, especially for the populations of lower purchasing power.
