ARQUITETURA CURATIVA DO SANATÓRIO SANTA TEREZINHA, EM SALVADOR, BA

Abstract

This article is the result of research on the health buildings environment, underway, financed by CNPQ, with scientific initiation fellows participation. Its objective was to demonstrate, through the analysis of the environmental conditions at the Sanatorio Santa Terezinha Hospital, inaugurated in 1941, in Salvador, Bahia, the planning done by modernists architects with the use of heliotherapy and cross ventilation to aid the tuberculosis cure, demonstrating the intention of architecture to participate in the healing process. The methodology used was the bibliographic research on the characteristics of this type of building, the visit, registration and the analysis of its climatic conditions using computer programs. As a result, it was possible to observe the intentionality of the architects in providing conditions of sun and winds controlled incidence, that allowed the comfort and the aid patients cure. It is hoped that climate planning will contribute as an example of architecture as a support factor for health restoration procedures.
