Abstract

This paper is the result of the methodological design of a doctorate. The objective is to present the results of a literature review about roadmaps for research in the applied social sciences, focused on case studies, in the field of architecture and urbanism. This review focuses on works that seek not only the understanding of "how" and "why" some facts occur, but also to find possible solutions to problems related to these facts. The theoretical documents analyzed bring a reflection and a discussion about the possibility of advancing in the understanding of cases studied by means of subsequent researches, with the application of the method of ActionResearch. With the discussions and reflections presented, it is verified that the researcher that performs a case study finds in action-research a possible follow up for the research, with the opportunity to explore solutions to problems found previously.
