The acoustic planning of urban areas, despite significantly impacting the health of the population, still does not receive enough attention. The canyon-streets raise concerns because it is a morphological configuration in which the verticalization of the buildings lined up along both sides can inhibit the spreading of sound rays. Thus, the objective of this work is to evaluate the acoustic conditions of an urban canyon. In loco measurements during the week and weekends, in the afternoon and evening periods, were carried out and compared in two streets in the city of Petrópolis - RJ: the Rua-Canyon 16 de Março and the rua do Imperador. The results indicated that none of the measurement points had sound pressure levels within the limits indicated by national regulations, demonstrating that the noise level in the urban environment of Petrópolis is excessive. In the canyon-street, although primarily for pedestrians, the high verticality could develop multiple sound reflections between facades, limiting the scattering of rays and vibration to increase sound levels. Thus, despite the different ratios of height and width of the streets and the differences in relation to the geometry of the buildings, the uses and flows were determinant in the noise differences between the streets.
