Abstract

The increasing urban population has led to the expansion and densification of urban centers, making road transportation an integral part of daily life and the economy. The noise pollution stemming from urban traffic significantly impacts people's quality of life, often causing discomfort and negative effects. Traffic noise is influenced by various factors, including engine performance during acceleration and deceleration, exhaust systems, and tire-pavement interactions, with noise levels varying based on pavement type. This study aims to assess the noise-reduction efficiency of different pavement compositions: interlocking pavement, porous pavement (CPA), and traditional asphalt concrete (CA). A quantitative approach was adopted, involving on-site data collection through sound measurements and vehicle traffic counts. The findings presented in this article support the conclusion that porous pavement (CPA) is the most effective in mitigating traffic-generated noise while interlocking pavement tends to produce higher noise levels.
