The human productivity level related to their activities can be improved in thermally comfortable rooms. People use to seek ways to ensure better environmental conditions, especially in scholar contexts that the compliance of its lighting systems and its building thermal acoustic parameters play an important role for student performances. Artificial conditioning systems can be used, in some cases, as a universal solution to provided indoor thermal comfort for commercial and public buildings. However, this strategy contradicts concerns regarding sustainable issues, natural sources conservation and energy efficiency. Thus, passive strategies debate showed its crucial importance to reduce building energy consumption. In this context, the aim of this work was to analyse the thermal comfort conditions provided in Building 12 of the Federal Center for Technological Education of Minas Gerais (CEFET-MG), located in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Building simulation was carried out to quantify the thermal comfort and discomfort hours according to Brazilian Building Energy Efficiency Regulation (RTQ-C). As results, passive strategies combined with constructive changes i.e., glass type, roof materials and building shading devices can lead to better comfort levels. This study presents, therefore, alternative strategies to artificial conditioning systems adoption, that imply in greater electricity consumption for buildings.
