Abstract

A lighting analysis of an environment is more comprehensive if, in addition to the measurements of the environmental conditions, the perception of users is considered. Thus, the research reported in this article aimed to compare and analyze illuminance data in classrooms, obtained through measurements and computer simulation of daylighting, with the perception of visual comfort reported by students aged between 8 and 11 years, in a hot and humid climate. The method integrates lighting measurement, computational simulation of daylighting (Apolux software) and a survey with students aged 8 to 11 years. The chosen age group corresponds to elementary school students, with reading and writing skills. Regarding the results we point out: a) the majority of students consider the classroom bright or very bright (the lowest percentage was 53%); b) difficulty in seeing information on the blackboard and on the desk were frequently reported, associated to the incidence of sunlight, followed by the observation of insufficient lighting; c) the results obtained with the questionnaires converge with the simulation data, the school where 89% of the students perceive the room as “bright or very bright” coincides with higher illuminances; d) reflections on the blackboard were related problems, more frequently in environments where illuminances are higher
