With the urban growth, human activities have intensified and, consequently, noise levels have become increasingly accentuated, becoming a problem for the quality of life. The objective of this research was to evaluate the acoustic performance in public spaces in the neighbourhood of Várzea, Recife/PE. It seeks to continue a previous research carried out by the Laboratory of Environmental Comfort (Lacam / UFPE), which aim to spatialize the urban noise in the entire city, considering different characteristics, such as morphology, land use and occupation, flow of pedestrians and vehicles and presence of vegetation. The hypothetical deductive method was used, from the following methodological procedures: bibliographic research, documentary research, measurements in loco, and mapping of urban noise, through the spatialization of the collected data. It is noted that the data obtained through the measurements were compared to the values recommended in ABNT 10151/2019. From the results obtained, it can be said that the intense flow of vehicles combined with the presence of acoustic reflective materials are the major contributors to the amplification of the acoustic discomfort. With the analysis of sound pressure levels in specific locations, several proposals can be worked on at the level of urban planning and urban control related to urban zoning and urban parameters, implantation of acoustic barriers, vegetal sound barriers in high flow routes and facade materials, in order to minimize environmental acoustic discomfort in urban areas.
