Abstract

ABNT 15220-03: 2005 standard defines Brazilian bioclimatic zones and presents design strategies for single family low income housing. However, the Brazilian standard have been widely discussed by researchers, who claim climatic characterization imprecision. Since it is the only classification that proposes construction and design strategies in Brazil, it has been applied to other types of buildings, and is used as a basis for other technical standards and regulations, which makes more evident the necessity of revision and expansion for a larger universe of analysis. Therefore, this paper brings a literature review in order to present a critical analysis that covers Brazilian climatic zoning from its historical origins to the present standard. This paper also provides a review of the most commonly applied zoning methods worldwide, as well as a critical and comparative analysis of proposed revisions on this standard, also leading to the international scenario of the most applied methods. This review was performed according to Systematic Literature Mapping method, which selected 28 scientific publications, from which it was possible to identify knowledge gaps and research possibilities capable of testing developed methods and generate advances.
